Silly Putty Chicken Nuggets...Huh????

After some research on what exactly is in the fast food that we are eating I've realized we're eating crazy stuff. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/sfmoms/detail?entry_id=66729 Silly putty chicken nuggets?.. Not only is there dimethylpolysiloxane, a chemical in these little chicken chunks that is found in silly putty and cosmetics but also tertiary butylhydroquinone, a petroleum based product. Yes, I did say silly putty, cosmetics, and petroleum.  Yum!

Sounds like what you want your kids to be eating right? As if the names alone didn't scare us enough, reading about these chemicals opens up a whole new world. This "TBHQ" (tertiary butylhydroquinone..that's a mouthful!) is limited to only 0.2 % of the oil used to cook because of the side effects pertained if consuming too much. One gram of this chemical can lead to nausea, vomiting, ringing of the ears, delirium, a sense of suffocation, and collapse. (According to "A Consumer's Dictionary Of Food Additives")

WOW.

Dimethylpolysiloxane on the other hand, is just a form of silicone. It is used to stop the oil from foaming. You can find it in many of your lipsticks, eyeliners, and etc. Either way you try to put this, it just sounds horrible. Sitting down and facing the fast food "truth" is proving to be just a little too much information.

You can try to stop a kid from eating silly putty as much as you want...but apparently at McDonalds it's business as usual. =)
